1. Your title and position will not carry you in the long term.
  2. You are there to serve your people, not to be served.
  3. Likability is important. If people don’t like you, they will only do what they need to while you’re watching.
  4. Stay humble. Don’t get too enamored with yourself. You are not as good as you think you are, and you are not as bad as some think you are.
  5. Be a great teacher and a great student. Teach and learn the rest of your life.
  6. Teach the 48 Lodestar Principles, and live them daily.
  7. Remember, Rome was not built in a day, and your team won’t be either. Be patient, don’t give up, and don’t tolerate bad character.
  8. Be soft-hearted and tough-minded: make tough decisions with a soft heart.
  9. Your #1 responsibility is the people you lead, not the customer. If your team feels like they are #1, they will make your customers feel like they are #1.
  10. Pray for wisdom daily, and be specific in your request. Ask and it will be given.
